Realtek Semiconductor Cuts Development Time by 50% and Takes the Lead in New-Generation HDA Codecs

Realtek Semiconductor Corporation needed to shorten R&D cycles and improve collaboration to deliver new-generation High-Definition Audio (HDA) codecs that meet industry standards. Previously reliant on time-consuming C code and SPICE workflows, Realtek turned to MathWorks’ Model-Based Design tools—notably MATLAB and Simulink—to provide powerful numerical computation, system-level simulation, and a shared development environment.

MathWorks helped Realtek standardize on MATLAB, Simulink and companion toolboxes (DSP System Toolbox, Fixed-Point Designer, Optimization Toolbox, Signal Processing Toolbox) to generate Verilog, run cosimulation, and optimize implementations. The MathWorks-based workflow cut development time by about 50%, enabled the ALC880 launch well ahead of schedule, and helped Realtek capture roughly 60% of the global PC audio codec market, while achieving smaller chip sizes, improved SNR in later devices, better cross-team collaboration, and stronger ROI.
