RangeAero - Customer Case Study

RangeAero, an autonomous helicopter startup, faced the complex challenge of designing a precise, heavy-payload drone for logistics to alleviate stress on global supply chains. They needed to develop a safe and efficient vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft capable of operating in congested spaces and extreme weather. To tackle this, they utilized MathWorks' Model-Based Design tools, including MATLAB and Simulink, accessed through the MathWorks Accelerator Program.

Using MathWorks' products, RangeAero modeled and simulated complex vehicle dynamics to validate design theories and rapidly improve their prototypes through over 100 test flights. This approach allowed them to safely run "what if" scenarios, analyze flight data, and develop critical systems like health diagnostics and image processing. As a result, MathWorks enabled the startup to accelerate development and design their Range100 coaxial helicopter, which is capable of carrying 100 kg for 200 km, bringing them closer to transforming aerial cargo delivery.
