Quantacell Uses Image Analysis and Machine Learning for Biological and Medical Applications

Quantacell, a company focused on biological and medical image analysis, needed to automatically interpret large volumes of high‑resolution, extensively annotated images to speed research and ensure reproducibility. To address this, they used MathWorks’ MATLAB environment together with the Image Processing Toolbox and the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox for a rapid, unified workflow spanning annotation, visualization, and algorithm development.

MathWorks’ tools enabled Quantacell to quickly prototype image analysis, machine learning, and deep learning solutions—training a model that improved pathologist assessment of kidney biopsies and building a complete deep‑learning/ML algorithm in 24 hours that contributed to winning a skin‑cancer hackathon. The MathWorks solution delivered a flexible, easy‑to‑use platform with built‑in algorithms, faster time to prototype, and measurable outcomes (hackathon win and diagnostic performance exceeding visual inspection).
