Politecnico di Milano Encourages Out-of-the-Classroom Learning with University-Wide Access to MATLAB, Online Courses, and On-Campus Training

Politecnico di Milano, Italy’s largest technical university with more than 42,000 students, needed a way to teach essential software skills outside crowded labs so students could complete assignments and research on their own devices. The university partnered with MathWorks and rolled out campus‑wide access to MATLAB, Simulink, and related products along with online courses, onsite training, and a certification program.

MathWorks implemented a Campus‑Wide License, the MATLAB Academic Online Training Suite, instructor‑led tutorials, and a Certified MATLAB Associate program. The program produced measurable results: over 15,000 active MATLAB users, more than 1,000 online training sessions, 500+ students in multiweek tutorials, and 29 of 33 doctoral students earning certification—freeing classroom time, enabling work on personal laptops, and demonstrating tangible skill credentials for employers.
