Penske Technology Group Enables Motorsport Teams to Improve Vehicle Performance

Penske Technology Group (PTG) provides shaker-rig testing and analysis services to professional motorsport teams that need to predict and optimize vehicle damping and performance before events. PTG required flexible, easy-to-learn analysis tools with GUI/graphics, the ability to log and process millions of data points, and the capacity to run simulations when the rig was fully booked—so they adopted MathWorks products such as MATLAB and Simulink to meet those needs.

Using MathWorks tools, PTG preprocesses track data in MATLAB, models vehicle and aerodynamic loads in Simulink (with Simulink Coder for real-time rig control), optimizes parameters with Optimization Toolbox and Simulink Design Optimization, and deploys analysis apps to teams via MATLAB Compiler. MathWorks enabled PTG to cut development time by more than 50%, log and analyze over 600 million data points per test day, increase offline simulation testing to make better use of rig time, and streamline development and deployment of their analysis tools.
