Newport Corporation Reduces Data Acquisition and Analysis Time by Hundreds of Hours

Newport Corporation, a maker of nanometer‑precision motion control devices for the semiconductor industry, faced a challenge to control many instruments and rapidly acquire and analyze large volumes of test data to meet tight delivery deadlines. To avoid time-consuming C coding and manual data transfers, they adopted MathWorks tools—MATLAB together with Instrument Control Toolbox and Data Acquisition Toolbox—to centralize instrument control and data analysis.

MathWorks implemented an integrated solution that connects directly to data acquisition hardware and brings all measurements into MATLAB for immediate analysis and visualization. The change cut an eight‑hour test analysis from about a week to roughly 10 minutes, saved hundreds of testing hours, produced reliable, correlated measurements from multiple instruments, and enabled Newport to deliver the customized product on time using MATLAB plots to validate specifications.
