Mondragon University Students Build Practical Engineering Skills Through Project-Based Learning

Mondragon University’s Faculty of Engineering needed to produce graduates with practical, industry-ready skills by shifting to project-based learning, but faced course restructuring and the need for students to work anywhere, anytime. To support this change the university partnered with MathWorks and adopted MATLAB and Simulink (via a Campus‑Wide License) so students could analyze, model, and simulate systems throughout their studies.

MathWorks’ Campus‑Wide License and products—MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder, and Symbolic Math Toolbox—were integrated across the curriculum, enabling students to design, simulate, generate C code, and test controllers on real hardware. The MathWorks solution supported low‑cost, practical projects, increased student engagement through anytime/anywhere access (reported in student surveys), and drew positive feedback from industry employers who value graduates’ hands‑on experience.
