A MathWorks Case Study
MMRFIC Technology Private Limited, which is developing a Gbit/s modem to support 4G/5G backhaul, faced the challenge of designing 5G massive MIMO arrays at mmWave where propagation is difficult, path loss is high, and multiuser flexibility is required. To address this, MMRFIC worked with MathWorks using MATLAB, the Phased Array System Toolbox, and the 5G Toolbox to evaluate hardware options and simulate realistic 5G scenarios.
MathWorks helped MMRFIC implement a hybrid beamforming 5G MIMO array with end-to-end uplink and downlink simulation, enabling exploration and comparison of hybrid beamformer architectures, incorporation of built-in arrays, TDL/CDL channel models, and custom scattering matrices. Using MathWorks tools, MMRFIC optimized link-level system performance for multiuser scenarios, informed hardware choices for their modem, and gained a deeper understanding of 5G PHY behavior.
