Microtech Develops and Tests Implantable Blood Pressure Sensor

Microtech set out to create and validate a submillimeter implantable blood pressure sensor that communicates via ultrasound, but needed a way to develop, test, and automate signal-processing and lab-control software without costly C/C++ rewrites. MathWorks provided MATLAB and associated toolboxes (Data Acquisition Toolbox, Instrument Control Toolbox, Database Toolbox, and MATLAB Compiler) to support algorithm development, hardware interfacing, and standalone application deployment.

Using MathWorks’ MATLAB and toolboxes, Microtech implemented real-time ultrasound signal processing, controlled DAQ boards and waveform generators, automated test chambers, and built standalone measurement apps for deployment across labs. The MathWorks-based solution halved development time, streamlined hardware updates, increased engineer productivity by about 20%, and enabled preclinical testing as the company prepares for clinical trials.
