Machine Learning Helps Bring Critical Cancer Screening to Rural India

The Dayananda Sagar Entrepreneurship Research & Business Incubation Foundation (DERBI Foundation) partnered with MathWorks for the MedTechnovation challenge to support early-stage healthcare innovators in India. One participant, Satin Healthtech, faced the challenge of developing a highly accurate machine learning algorithm for its portable cervical cancer screening tool, Cervisense, to address healthcare inequity in rural areas.

Through the MathWorks accelerator program, Satin Healthtech's founder received direct technical mentorship, learning how to adjust parameters in her deep learning network to improve algorithm accuracy using MATLAB. This support was crucial for advancing the prototype. As a result, Satin Healthtech completed its Cervisense device, garnered significant interest from medical professionals in India, and positioned itself to contribute to global cancer eradication initiatives with a strong potential impact in low- and middle-income countries.
