Isuzu Advanced Engineering Center Develops Automatic Lateral Motion Controller Generation Tool for Automated Trucks

Isuzu Advanced Engineering Center needed a faster, lower-effort way to develop and deploy lateral motion controllers for vehicles without repeated driving tests or detailed vehicle modeling. Working with MathWorks, they explored a data-driven approach using a MATLAB-based automatic generation tool that could create controllers from measured in/out data.

MathWorks implemented a MATLAB script that preprocesses offline measurements and runs an automatic controller-generation algorithm to produce a Simulink control model, which can be exported for rapid-prototype implementation in the vehicle RPC housing. The solution lets Isuzu generate a working lateral controller from a single test run (no repeated driving tests or separate modeling) and immediately implement it in the vehicle, substantially accelerating prototyping and reducing test effort.
