INTACTON Deploys Sensor with Production Code Generated by Embedded Coder

INTACTON, a developer of optical sensors for industrial lines, faced the challenge of creating a DSP-based sensor using standard CCD cameras and a TI C6000 DSP within an 18-month timeline and with minimal DSP programming experience. To avoid spending scarce engineering time on hand-coding DSP firmware, they turned to MathWorks and its Model-Based Design toolchain, including MATLAB, Simulink, DSP System Toolbox, Simulink Fixed-Point, and Embedded Coder.

Using MathWorks tools, INTACTON modeled and simulated the system, performed a two-month feasibility study, rapid‑prototyped on target hardware, and automatically generated production code with Embedded Coder (with support from MathWorks staff). The result: a working prototype ready for demonstration within the deadline, successful field tests including 10 g cutter trials, and dramatic performance gains—code execution time dropped from over 200 ms to under 2 ms—achieved by a six‑person team.
