A MathWorks Case Study
Haldex, a supplier of braking systems for heavy commercial vehicles, needed to develop stability-control algorithms to detect load transfers and slow articulated vehicles to prevent rollovers. Facing hazardous and costly vehicle testing plus an aggressive timetable, Haldex partnered with MathWorks and used Model-Based Design with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Simscape Multibody, and related tools to develop and evaluate control strategies without relying on test vehicles until late in the project.
MathWorks Consulting created libraries of vehicle-modeling blocks, virtual-vehicle simulations, and a MATLAB-based user interface so Haldex engineers could configure parameters, visualize results, and tune controllers in Simulink; real vehicles were reduced to validation and fleet tests confirmed positive feedback. As a result of MathWorks’ solution, Haldex halved development time (about a 50% reduction, roughly two years), cut costs, improved the design process, put the product into production, and adopted MathWorks tools as core capabilities for future EBS/ABS and stability projects.
