Haier Leverages Model-Based Design to Accelerate Software Development for Smart Appliances

Haier Wash Machine, a division of Haier developing smart appliances, faced challenges in embedded software development due to increasing product complexity. The traditional R&D process resulted in high costs, delays, and difficulties in managing numerous design artifacts. To improve efficiency, they turned to MathWorks and adopted a Model-Based Design approach using products like Simulink and Stateflow.

MathWorks provided a solution where engineers modeled control algorithms and virtual plants with Simscape Electrical to enable simulation and verification without hardware. They then used Embedded Coder to automatically generate production-ready code. This approach allowed Haier to check designs via simulation, minimize human coding errors, and save significant time on code reviews, ultimately accelerating their time to market for new appliances.
