FCA Develops AUTOSAR-Compliant Engine Control System with Model-Based Design

FCA’s Powertrain Global Controls team needed to develop a new generation gasoline Engine Control System that met AUTOSAR requirements while coordinating geographically distributed teams and minimizing integration effort and maximizing reuse. To address this challenge, FCA partnered with MathWorks and used Model‑Based Design with MATLAB, Simulink, and Embedded Coder.

MathWorks provided a Model‑Based Design workflow that mapped AUTOSAR elements into Simulink, enabled automatic production code generation, and used Simulink Data Dictionary to decouple data definitions from models. As a result, FCA established a common modeling language for cross‑site collaboration, reduced integration effort, accelerated development time, increased software reuse, and improved software quality through automated code generation.
