Developing a Multidomain Hypercar HVAC System Through Industry-Academia Collaboration

EMA Global Engineering worked with MathWorks to develop a controller for the HVAC system in a next-generation hypercar before the vehicle or system had been built. The team needed a way to design and validate complex climate-control software early in development, despite the HVAC system spanning multiple physical domains and serving an ultra-high-performance vehicle.

Using MathWorks products including Simulink, Simscape, Simulink Test, and MATLAB, EMA Global Engineering built a detailed multidomain HVAC model, created test harnesses, and ran simulation-based validation well ahead of hardware availability. The approach shortened development time, reduced on-vehicle testing needs, and helped the team fine-tune control parameters before deploying the system on the hypercar’s ECU; the model can now be reused for future vehicle versions with updated parameters.
