Design Times at Honeywell Cut by 60%

Honeywell’s Commercial Aviation Systems (CAS) division needed to update its Primus flight‑control system while cutting development time and costs and reducing error-prone handoffs between engineers and programmers. To achieve that, Honeywell turned to MathWorks, adopting MATLAB for initial conversion and Simulink plus Embedded Coder for modeling, simulation, verification, and automatic code generation.

Using MathWorks tools, Honeywell modularized and simulated control laws in Simulink and generated flight‑ready code with Embedded Coder (nearly 60% of the upgraded Primus code was auto‑generated). The result was a measurable five‑to‑one productivity gain (design times roughly cut by 60%), highly accurate and reusable code with no observed Embedded Coder coding errors, improved documentation and traceability, FAA certification of the revamped system, and selection of the Primus Epic for the Hawker Horizon.
