DEQX Improves Speaker Sound Quality with MATLAB

DEQX, an Australian digital audio technology company, needed to measure loudspeakers and room acoustics and generate robust correction filters to improve sound clarity across varied environments. To meet tight time-to-market pressures and handle complex signal-processing challenges, DEQX turned to MathWorks tools—primarily MATLAB along with the Signal Processing Toolbox and MATLAB Compiler—to develop and validate their calibration, measurement, and playback-correction algorithms.

Using MathWorks software, DEQX prototyped and tested algorithms in MATLAB, evaluated functions from the Signal Processing Toolbox on DSP simulators, and compiled validated code into C++ with MATLAB Compiler for integration into their product GUI and firmware. MathWorks enabled DEQX to cut development time by an estimated 9–12 months, accelerate testing and automation, and helped deliver award-winning products (DEQX Calibrated™ NHT Xd loudspeakers), while supporting ongoing firmware improvements for higher sampling rates.
