Corindus Platform Enables First In-Human Telerobotic Coronary Intervention

Corindus Vascular Robotics needed to enable physicians to perform percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) remotely, delivering real‑time fluoroscopy and control data with high reliability and low latency to ensure patient safety. To meet this challenge they used MathWorks’ Model‑Based Design approach with MATLAB and Simulink to model, simulate, and prototype the telerobotic control and communication systems.

MathWorks’ tools were used to simulate the robot and controllers, generate real‑time prototypes (Simulink Real‑Time, Simulink Coder), and produce production code (Embedded Coder) while leveraging toolboxes for image acquisition, computer vision, testing, and static analysis. The MathWorks‑enabled solution powered the CorPath GRX telerobotic platform, leading to the world’s first in‑human telerobotic PCI, halving development time and reducing engineering effort by 80%.
