Combining Artificial Intelligence and Footwear Improves Diabetes Treatment

The Dayananda Sagar Entrepreneurship Research & Business Incubation Foundation (DERBI) partnered with MathWorks for the MedTechnovation challenge, seeking to identify and support early-stage medical tech startups in India. A key challenge for one such startup, Xfinito Biodesigns, was advancing the development of its therapeutic smart shoe, designed to treat diabetic neuropathy and other conditions through neuromodulation.

With technical support and acceleration resources from MathWorks, Xfinito used MATLAB and Simulink to fast-track its platform. This enabled the creation of sophisticated AI algorithms for data processing and the development of digital twins, accelerating their intelligent development by years. The solution provided a wearable medical device that improves patient outcomes and access to care, with positive feedback from both doctors and patients.
