BridgeWave Communications Delivers High-Capacity Wireless Links Months Ahead of Schedule

BridgeWave Communications faced the engineering challenge of delivering a high-frequency, high-capacity wireless Ethernet link (the FE60) while minimizing cost and accelerating time-to-market. To validate system performance visually and reduce prototype risk, BridgeWave turned to MathWorks and its Model-Based Design tools—notably Simulink alongside MATLAB, Communications Toolbox, DSP System Toolbox, and RF Blockset—to model and simulate the entire link before moving to hardware.

Using MathWorks tools, BridgeWave built a complete Simulink model that evolved from high-level modulators to detailed, component-level implementations, incorporating measured RF data and extensive parameter sweeps. The MathWorks-based approach cut development time by more than three months on an eight-month project, produced a first prototype that worked as simulated (minimizing board spins), and improved team communication through an executable, visual specification.
