Bharat Electronics Develops Multi-Target Tracker for Surveillance Radar

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a designer and manufacturer of radar and defense electronics, needed a field-deployable multi‑target tracking module for coastal surveillance. To evaluate and develop the tracker, BEL used MathWorks tools—MATLAB along with the Sensor Fusion and Tracking Toolbox and MATLAB Coder—to assess performance against recorded data and plan for deployment.

Using MathWorks’ Sensor Fusion and Tracking Toolbox in MATLAB, BEL validated complex tracker algorithms, implemented covariance‑based track‑to‑track fusion, and generated production‑ready C/C++ code with MATLAB Coder, integrating it via a custom wrapper into their signal chain. The MathWorks workflow sped development and reduced cost by leveraging built‑in algorithms and an object‑oriented API, enabled desktop prototyping and code generation, and helped BEL transition from an OEM black box to a white‑box, extensible tracker solution.
