Banca Carige Integrates a MATLAB Based Valuation Library with Its Enterprise Pricing and Risk Platform

Banca Carige, one of Italy’s largest banks, needed to replace a proprietary, black‑box Microsoft Excel add-in used to price derivatives and other complex instruments with a transparent, customizable alternative. Working with MathWorks, the bank set out to develop its own valuation library (MatFin) so its analysts could inspect, modify, and validate pricing algorithms rather than rely on an inflexible third‑party tool.

Using MathWorks MATLAB with Financial Toolbox and Financial Instruments Toolbox, and deploying with MATLAB Compiler and MATLAB Compiler SDK, Banca Carige built MatFin, packaged models as Excel add‑ins and a .NET component, and integrated them with the Misys KSP platform. The MathWorks solution is in production: pricing is now transparent and flexible, processes are automated and integration streamlined, and products can be priced daily (rather than weekly), delivering timelier, auditable valuations.
