A MathWorks Case Study
ATB Technologies needed to develop control software, electronics, and a high‑performance permanent magnet synchronous motor for a fuel‑cell vehicle compressor that had to deliver high torque, rapid acceleration, and up to 20,000 rpm under an aggressive schedule. To replace slow, bug‑prone hand coding and meet verification and MISRA‑style requirements, ATB Technologies adopted MathWorks tools for Model‑Based Design, including Simulink, Stateflow, Embedded Coder, MATLAB, and Fixed‑Point Designer.
Using MathWorks tools, ATB modeled and simulated the plant and controller, iteratively verified designs (including closed‑loop simulation and RTDX on a TI C2000 MCU), and used Embedded Coder to auto‑generate production code, device drivers, and a scheduler. MathWorks’ workflow cut development time by 50%, reduced bugs, improved modularity and model reuse, simplified design reviews, accelerated target verification and deployment, and enabled ATB Technologies to deliver the compressor on schedule with motors now in production vehicles.
