Airbus Defence and Space Develops Safety-Critical Avionics Using Model-Based Design

Airbus Defence and Space’s Overall Systems Integration group needed to adopt Model‑Based Design to develop safety‑critical avionics and support DO‑178C and DO‑254 certification for both software and hardware. To meet these challenges they worked with MathWorks, using MATLAB and Simulink along with Simulink Coder, HDL Coder, and Embedded Coder to build integration test benches and a model‑centric development process.

MathWorks’ tools provided an end‑to‑end workflow from modeling and simulation to automatic code generation, test, verification, and certification, which enabled early error detection, reuse of models and tests, and collaboration across large teams through referenced models. As a result, Airbus Defence and Space reduced the design and test phases for avionics products, achieved automatic code generation, and streamlined the path to DO‑178C/DO‑254 compliance using MathWorks’ products.
