AI-Powered Virtual Coach Takes Swimmers to the Next Level

Ciye, a company founded by an avid swimmer, faced the challenge of swimmers having no accurate way to track their performance metrics in the pool. Existing solutions like swim watches were inconvenient and inaccurate, leaving athletes frustrated and unable to get real-time feedback. To solve this, Ciye used MATLAB from vendor MathWorks to develop a custom data labeling tool and to build and optimize the deep learning algorithms needed for their product.

Using MathWorks tools, the Ciye team created a compact, powerful AI model that could accurately identify stroke type, count laps, and track times from a sensor in their smart goggles. The solution achieved over 99% accuracy in tracking swim metrics. The results were significant, enabling Paralympic swimmers to train effectively with remote coaching and even helping the German National Team to swim faster during trials. MathWorks provided the technology that allowed Ciye to bring a virtual coaching experience directly into a swimmer's line of sight.
