A Mather Economics Case Study
The Everglades Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization, commissioned Mather Economics to measure the economic benefits of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). Their challenge was to quantify the impact of this large-scale ecosystem restoration on various benefits, including water purification, property values, recreation, and carbon sequestration.
Mather Economics conducted extensive research, including literature reviews and expert interviews, to build economic models based on collected environmental and economic data. The vendor's analysis estimated that the CERP restoration would generate a net present value of approximately $46.5 billion in economic benefits, resulting in a benefit-to-cost ratio of 4.04.
