Tricuspid Valve Replacement: 3D Technology Accelerates Life-saving Ideas to Reach Patients Faster

Innoventric set out to accelerate R&D for a novel approach to treat tricuspid regurgitation by placing a stent‑graft with a sidewall valve in the caval veins rather than the native tricuspid annulus. Because the tricuspid anatomy is highly variable and changes dynamically, Innoventric needed precise patient measurements and rapid validation to move the device toward first‑in‑human trials. To meet this challenge they partnered with Materialise and used the Materialise Medical team’s Mimics Innovation Suite for 3D segmentation, measurement, and pre‑procedural planning.

Materialise provided virtual models, detailed anatomical measurements, virtual implantation simulations and pliable 3D prints for training, enabling Innoventric to perform robust V&V and refine their Trillium™ design. That workflow supported 30 preclinical implants in pigs, thorough bench testing, and the start of early human trials in 2020, helping multiple patients and giving operators greater confidence—demonstrating that Materialise’s tools accelerated Innoventric’s journey from bench to bedside.
