Transforming Eyewear and the Eyewear Industry Yuniku

Yuniku, HOYA’s 3D‑tailored eyewear platform, set out to fix a core industry problem: traditional eyewear design starts with the frame and can compromise lens alignment and visual performance. To deliver anatomically and optically optimized glasses at retail scale, Yuniku partnered with Materialise and leveraged 3D scanning, parametric design automation and additive manufacturing services.

Materialise co‑created an end‑to‑end digital supply chain—adapting facial 3D scanning, integrating software with HOYA to preserve ideal lens positioning, parametrically tailoring frames, and manufacturing them via laser sintering tuned through the Materialise Control Platform with post‑processing by Materialise Luxura. The outcome is fully customized, authenticated frames produced for individual wearers and an open platform for retailers; and drawing on Materialise’s proven impact in similar projects (e.g., helping shift in‑ear hearing aid production from 20% to nearly 100% digital in two years), Yuniku is positioned to drive comparable industry change.
