The RBM Noor, Tested to the Bone, Before it even Existed

RBM Noor, launched by Scandinavian Business Seating, needed to validate the chair’s dynamic support and communicate its look and feel while it existed only as a design file. Materialise was brought in (using Vacuum Casting and 3D-printed masters) to provide realistic pre-production prototypes so stakeholders could see, touch and test the design before mass production.

Materialise created a series of prototypes by 3D printing master models, making molds and vacuum-casting colored polyurethane shells with different materials and cosmetic properties. The resulting parts matched the end product in appearance, feel and function, and—thanks to Materialise’s fast throughput and low mold cost—RBM Noor could rapidly iterate and test design variations until ready for mass production.
