Tata Motors Improves the Efficiency of Their Prototype Production

Tata Motors, a leading Indian automotive manufacturer, needed to improve the efficiency and reliability of its 3D-printed prototype production, where excessive support structures and insufficient data preparation were driving material waste and build failures. To address this, Tata Motors partnered with Materialise and adopted the Materialise 3D Print Suite—including Materialise Magics, Magics Sinter, e-Stage and 3-matic—to optimize file repair, nesting, support generation and surface texturing across laser sintering and stereolithography workflows.

Materialise’s software automated STL repair, nesting and support creation (e-Stage) and added texturing capabilities (3-matic), cutting manual errors and improving support removal and surface quality. As a result, support structures now occupy about 30% of a part’s weight (previously double or triple), powder and material consumption decreased, data preparation sped up, build failures dropped, and Tata Motors achieved faster, higher-quality prototype production using Materialise solutions.
