CommScope, a long-time user of 3D printing for R&D and production, faced rising demand and inefficient build preparation from basic machine software that relied on bounding-box nesting. To boost productivity as they scaled in-house SLS production, CommScope turned to Materialise, adopting Magics for data and build preparation and later the Magics Sinter Module to address nesting and post-processing challenges.

Materialise implemented geometry-based nesting, manual placement options and Sinterboxes through Magics Sinter Module, enabling denser builds and simpler recovery of small parts; the team learned the workflow in about half a day. The result: CommScope doubled production numbers in one week, significantly cut preparation and reporting time (e.g., totaling costs for 300–400 parts in ~2 minutes), and gained ongoing support from Materialise.
