Case Study: Stratasys achieves a colorful, multi-textured 3D-printed telescope with Materialise 3-matic

A Materialise Case Study

See the World through a Colorful, Multi-Textured Telescope

Stratasys set out to create a standout, multi-textured and multi-colored telescope demo part and worked with Materialise, using Materialise 3-matic for texture/design work and Materialise Magics for data preparation and print readiness. The core challenge was to combine different surface textures and distinct colors in a single assembled part.

Materialise applied sharkskin, leather and polygon textures by performing Boolean operations between STL files, then prepared and labeled the model in Materialise Magics; Stratasys printed the lens and mount on Objet 500 printers using VeroYellow, VeroWhite and VeroBlack (mixing white and black to get grey). The result was a unique, multi-textured telescope with a one-piece functional mount and graduated color transitions—demonstrating Materialise’s software enabled precise texture mapping and three-material color control for a striking consumer-goods demo.
