Schunk’s 3D-Printed Grippers Grab All Attention

SCHUNK, a German specialist in clamping technology and gripping systems, faced the challenge of automating the time-consuming, costly process of designing and ordering tailored gripper fingers. SCHUNK worked with Materialise to develop eGrip, the world’s first fully automated web-based design and ordering tool for 3D-printed gripper fingers, using Materialise’s 3D printing software and services.

Materialise provided the software, integrated its Streamics automation platform, and routed orders to Materialise’s certified Laser Sintered Polyamide 12 production, enabling users to upload STEP/STL files, configure grip parameters, and receive price and delivery info in minutes. The Materialise-powered eGrip reduces design-and-order time to about 15 minutes with delivery in a few days instead of several weeks, and SCHUNK’s solution was recognized with a Hermes Award nomination, selected from 70 companies across 10 countries.
