Sagrada Familia Magics Meets Modernism

La Sagrada Familia faced the challenge of continuing Antoni Gaudí’s complex, partly lost designs with incomplete blueprints and forms too intricate for traditional handcrafted models. To address this, the cathedral team adopted Materialise and its Magics software along with 3D printing workflows to move from 2D plans and slow manual prototyping to digital additive manufacturing.

Materialise implemented Magics tools—such as the Fix Wizard, ShrinkWrap and Cut & Punch—to repair and prepare large STL files in minutes, create watertight parts with built-in connectors, and enable full‑color ColorJet prototyping. This solution has accelerated model preparation, reduced costly handcrafting, supported the project for over thirteen years, and helped architects iterate reliably so the cathedral remains on track for anticipated completion in 2026.
