Planning a Total Knee Revision

New Mexico Orthopaedics, represented by Krishna Tripuraneni, MD, faced the challenge of planning a total knee revision for an 86‑year‑old patient with gross component loosening, medial and antero‑posterior instability, and limited mobility. To prepare a reliable surgical plan, the team used Materialise’s OrthoView preoperative planning software to evaluate bony landmarks, component positioning, and revision-specific considerations.

Using Materialise OrthoView, the surgeon identified the need for stemmed femoral and tibial components, a tibial augment, and an offset tibial stem, assessed joint‑line preservation, selected appropriate stem diameters/lengths, and determined the stop‑reaming point and alignment with the SmartKnee Wizard. The planning reduced intraoperative uncertainty, helped avoid a potential fracture, and supported predictable implant engagement; at one year the patient achieved 0–115° range of motion, with intraoperative use of tibial augments, a 17 mm polyethylene, and hybrid cementation.
