A Materialise Case Study
Ossila, a maker of research-lab instruments, needed a way to produce a small series of completely light-tight USB spectrometers without the cost and time of traditional machining and hand alignment. They turned to Materialise and its 3D printing capabilities, specifically using PA 12 and Multi Jet Fusion, to achieve the density, accuracy, and light-tightness their sensitive detector required.
Materialise helped Ossila redesign the spectrometer for 3D printing, reducing the build to just three parts with pre-aligned optical elements. The result was much faster manufacturing and simpler assembly: Ossila says each unit can now be built in under half an hour, at least four to five times faster than aligning each optical element individually, while also achieving the tolerances and print consistency they needed.
