Case Study: RS Print achieves Paula Radcliffe’s comeback with Materialise 3-matic 3D-printed custom insoles

A Materialise Case Study

Preview of the RS Print Case Study

Mimics® Innovation Suite Supports Paula Radcliffe’s Comeback

RS Print, formed from the collaboration of RS Scan and Materialise, was tasked with creating highly personalized, performance-driven insoles to support Paula Radcliffe’s comeback after injury. The challenge was to translate dynamic gait analysis into a lightweight, anatomically precise insole solution—using Materialise’s design tools such as 3-matic® from the Mimics® Innovation Suite—to prevent re-injury and optimize running performance.

RS Print combined RS Scan’s footscan® dynamic gait data with Materialise’s 3-matic® to engineer and 3D print thin, dynamic lattice insoles that were finished with a cushioning layer for comfort. The Materialise-enabled solution allowed rapid, anatomy-specific prototyping and delivered measurable results: Paula Radcliffe completed her first race in two years (Worcester City 10k) in 35:49, using the insoles in training to reduce stress on her body and support her recovery and continued racing.
