Case Study: JF Rey achieves sustainable, rapid-to-market 3D‑printed eyewear with Materialise

A Materialise Case Study

Preview of the JF Rey Case Study

Materials and Mindsets A Beautiful Blend for Sustainable Eyewear and for JF Rey

JF Rey, the French eyewear design house, wanted to move beyond 3D-printed prototyping and explore commercial production that blended 3D-printed components with its traditional metal and crafted materials—seeking both creative freedom and greater sustainability. To do this they partnered with Materialise for 3D printing expertise, design-for-print advice, and production of polyamide parts.

Materialise optimized JF Rey’s Nautinew files, printed samples for test assembly, and supported rapid iteration so the concept could be commercialized. The collaboration accelerated development, reduced material waste through precise 3D-printed shells, and delivered critical and commercial success—enabling JF Rey to expand the Nautinew range (including “New Black” and “Black Storm”) and pursue further 3D-printed eyewear concepts.
