Materialise Magics Saves Caterpillar Huge Amounts of Time

Caterpillar’s rapid prototyping team faced a tight five-week deadline to produce a 50% Thermal Efficiency Display Engine for a Diesel Engine Emissions Conference—over 200 individual pieces that needed to be constructed, painted, and assembled. To prepare and optimize the CAD assemblies for stereolithography, Caterpillar used Materialise Magics software to review, repair and ready the parts for printing.

Using Materialise Magics to separate assemblies, fix geometry, hollow and split large parts, set up build platforms and estimate run times, the team optimized builds and ran the SLA machines around the clock. Materialise Magics helped Caterpillar save about 80 hours, complete the stereolithography work in roughly three weeks, and meet the conference deadline, and the team continues to rely on Materialise for ongoing projects and support.
