Materialise Magics Helps Ford Reach Slot Car Championships at RAPID 2014

Ford Motor Company needed a fast, flexible way to produce a high‑performance scale replica of the all‑new 2015 Mustang for Materialise’s Slot Car Championships at RAPID 2014 and to demonstrate 3D printing’s role in product development. To meet that challenge, Ford worked with Materialise and used Materialise’s Magics software to design and iterate the slot car quickly.

Using Materialise Magics, Ford 3D printed a 6‑inch by 2.5‑inch replica of the 2015 Mustang, enabling rapid iterations and process testing. The resulting slot car exceeded Ford engineers’ expectations at RAPID 2014—“blowing by the competition”—showing that Materialise’s solution accelerated prototyping, improved component design, and delivered strong, demonstrable performance.
