A Materialise Case Study
Jaguar Land Rover needed to realise the organic, interior forms of its CX-75 concept car, but traditional machining couldn’t deliver the complex shapes and finish required. Materialise stepped in via Materialise Engineering Services, applying additive manufacturing technologies — notably Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) in ABS and stereolithography on its patented Mammoth machines — to meet the design and production challenge.
Materialise built functional parts directly from 3D CAD, adding internal strengthening ribs with its engineering software and producing large components in single pieces to improve strength and finish. The approach cut production time by around 50%, gave Jaguar Land Rover extra time to refine CAD designs, and helped ensure the successful unveiling of the CX-75 at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
