Manufacturing Designer Eyewear Hoet Design Studio’s Cabrio Collection

Hoet Design Studio partnered with Materialise to create the Cabrio eyewear collection, aiming to marry timeless, classic design with the freedom of 3D printing. The challenge was to translate Hoet’s aesthetic and physiological requirements into a manufacturable product while meeting the repeatability and consistency demands of series production—using Materialise’s 3D‑printing capabilities to achieve complex geometries and an organic, cellulose‑like porous surface.

Materialise co‑created the solution by tuning dedicated 3D‑printing machines for eyewear, applying special surface finishing for a matte organic look, and deploying its Materialise Streamics software to track and control every manufacturing step. The result was consistent, repeatable production with minimized variance and tightened tolerances that met the high standards of the eyewear sector, enabling the Cabrio launch at MIDO 2015 and positioning Materialise as a manufacturer of luxury consumer‑grade products.
