A Materialise Case Study
IL Sentiero International Campus needed to bring a 500‑year‑old, partially illegible citation from an ancient book into the present as a tactile display for the TEMART project, with translations into modern Italian and Braille so visually impaired visitors could access it. Recreating the text from only a photo posed geometry and overhang challenges that risked print failure, so the team turned to Materialise and its software, Materialise Magics 25.1, to prepare a printable replica suitable for additive manufacturing.
Using Materialise Magics (including the Label, Honeycomb and Cut/Punch tools) the team applied the .dxf text files, created self‑supporting honeycomb voids for weight and powder removal, and adapted the design to the printer build volume; the part was produced by SLM in AISI 316L and finished welded and polished. The Materialise workflow delivered an A3 stainless‑steel facsimile with both modern Italian and Braille—exceeding expectations and making the historic text tactilely accessible to visitors, including the visually impaired.
