HOYA’s Vision Simulator & EyeGenius 3D-Printed Eyecare Devices

Hoya Vision Care wanted to modernize in‑store eye exams and let customers preview lenses before buying while delivering a high‑precision measurement system with broad testing capability. To solve challenges around constantly changing smartphones, rapid design iterations, and fast time‑to‑market, Hoya partnered with Materialise for additive‑manufacturing design and production of the HOYA Vision Simulator and HOYA EyeGenius.

Materialise co‑created ergonomic, 3D‑printed housings and mounts—using laser sintering, stereolithography masters and vacuum casting—to integrate features like customizable smartphone slots, trial‑lens inserts, an adjustment wheel, swivel hinge and magnetic docking. The outcome: a realistic Vision Simulator that lets users “try” lenses in 3D and a high‑precision EyeGenius offering 60 vision tests; Materialise’s process shortened design‑to‑production time, enabled updated production runs within five working days, and kept upgrade costs low for Hoya Vision Care.
