Bringing Mass Customization to Eyewear, with Aoyama Optical France

Aoyama Optical France, a major eyewear brand, wanted a contemporary, tech‑driven collection that delivers true mass customization for fashion‑ and tech‑savvy consumers rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. To achieve this, Aoyama partnered with Materialise and its Additive Manufacturing/Certified Additive Manufacturing services to develop the We DDD collection.

Materialise collaborated with Aoyama and Unistudio in co‑creation sessions, then produced the frames by laser sintering polyamide and applying a skin‑contact certified top‑coating, delivering lightweight, durable frames with integrated features (flexible temple arms that flex 160°). The We DDD line includes 14 models available in multiple sizes, nine colors and textures — 85 combinations total — enabling on‑demand production, faster time‑to‑market, reduced stock waste and repeatable mass‑customized manufacturing thanks to Materialise.
