A Day’s Worth of Work in 20 Minutes Automating 3DP Process Parameter Development

Rosswag, a century-old engineering firm that has qualified over 40 metal materials and produced more than 60,000 parts, faced a time-consuming, error-prone workflow for developing metal AM process parameters. Manual setup, tracking and documentation of experiments (for example, a 400-cube study that could take a full day) created big bottlenecks and risked mislabeling and data mistakes. Rosswag turned to Materialise and its Process Tuner to address these challenges.

Materialise implemented Process Tuner, integrating automated workflows, an embedded database and seamless output to Materialise Build Processor (with ZEISS AM parameter added for automated porosity measurement). The result: data preparation that once took hours — or even a full day — now finishes in 20–30 minutes regardless of sample count, and Rosswag saves more than 20 hours of engineering time per month, enabling initial alloy qualification in under two weeks. Materialise’s solution also reduces human error and streamlines the DOE process.
