A Complex Prototype to Showcase Complex Services

Linjebygg Offshore AS (LBO), a Norwegian specialist in maintenance of hard-to-reach areas on offshore oil rigs, needed a functional scale model to demonstrate its unique access tools at the ONS trade fair. Facing tight timelines and budget constraints, LBO enlisted Materialise to help turn its concept into a realistic, movable exhibit using 3D printing (Laser Sintering).

Materialise optimized the design for production and 3D-printed 71 parts that assembled into a detailed, functional model measuring 713 x 668 x 1,165 mm, delivered faster and more affordably than traditional manufacturing. The Materialise-built prototype increased booth visits and commercial interest—helping prospects better understand LBO’s technical solutions through demonstrable, movable tools.
