Heraeus Materials Technology in Chandler, AZ replaced a hard‑copy document system with MasterControl in Q3 2002 to meet ISO 9001 requirements and get better control of its quality documentation. The company initially uploaded 347 QMS items and quickly saw that paper records were not truly “controlled,” with document‑related audit issues dropping from frequent to zero after implementation.

Heraeus expanded MasterControl beyond QMS to solve cross‑departmental problems: a custom InfoCard for Accounting (now used >12,000 times), a replicated AutoQuote workflow for Sales, configurable hiring routes for HR, and a smart‑numbering change‑control system for Quality with automated routing and analytics. Today the system holds about 57,000 documents and records, is used daily across departments, streamlines approvals and retrievals, and reduced the need for additional software purchases.
