Efficiency Keeps ARUP Laboratories Industry Leader

ARUP Laboratories, owned by the University of Utah, is a national leader in medical testing—offering more than 2,000 tests and processing over 20,000 specimens daily. Rapid growth to 1,600+ employees and dozens of technical departments caused SOPs and controlled documents to proliferate; manual routing, separate signature sheets, and printed binders made collaboration, tracking and timely approvals increasingly difficult and put strain on turnaround times and compliance efforts.

To address this, ARUP implemented MasterControl (installed in 2002 and validated to meet 21 CFR Part 11) to automate routing, collaboration, approvals and electronic signatures, and to provide audit trails, role-based security, notifications and training tracking. The enterprise roll-out across departments delivered faster document cycle times, simpler access to current procedures, stronger compliance and improved testing turnaround—allowing ARUP to handle more paperwork with less manual effort.
